Konbini food for cold days: oden, steamed buns and hot drinks

What appears by the register from autumn, and how to order it.

From around October the hot counter fills up with winter food. These are seasonal and not in every store, but most big branches carry at least some of them.

  1. Nikuman (pork bun)肉まん
    nikuman

Steamed bun with pork. Ask for it at the register; it is kept in a glass steamer.

  2. Anman (sweet bean bun)あんまん
    anman

The same bun filled with sweet red bean paste. Meat-free (check the label).

  3. Pizza bunピザまん
    pizaman

A bun filled with tomato sauce and cheese.

  4. Odenおでん
    oden

Pick pieces from the pot by the register or tell the staff. Daikon radish (大根) and boiled egg (たまご) are good first picks. Some chains sell it in ready-packed cups.

  5. Hot bottled drinksホット
    hotto

Tea, coffee and soup in a heated case near the register, marked ホット (hot).

These are long-running products. Names, prices and availability change by store and season; check the shelf label.
